Sarah Cooper

English as an Additional Language

Sarah Cooper graduated from Birmingham University with a BA Hons in French, before gaining a PGCE and a Master’s Degree in Applied Linguistics. A passion for travel took her to Africa, where she lived and worked for 18 years. She taught in international schools in Malawi, Uganda and Kenya, both as EAL specialist and French teacher up to IGCSE. She taught Linguistics at Afhad University, Khartoum and qualified as an IELTS examiner with the British Council in Nairobi. Sarah also became a trustee of Trust for African Schools, supporting refugee communities on the Somali/Kenyan border. After moving to Switzerland with her family in 2011, Sarah taught at College Champittet before joining La Côte International School in September 2014. The experience that she gained from living and working overseas has prepared her for the challenges of working with English as an Additional Language students from a range of backgrounds. She connects easily with students of all ages and nationalities and shows great empathy in her teaching.
