Cooking for the Homeless

At BISB we are pleased to be taking direct action to support those in the locality who are less fortunate than ourselves by cooking for the nearby DePaul homeless shelter.

Every Wednesday during our Enrichment programme a group of KS3 & 4 students have worked hard with several IB students to prepare tasty and nutritious food for the shelter. Last week we made lentil & vegetable soup with fresh soda bread and this week we made delicious Indian lentil dhal with handmade chapattis.

The students really enjoyed learning new skills and also experiencing new cuisines and some very interesting ingredients such as fresh curry leaves and ghee! It was important to make sure that the food tasted as it should and the students all agreed that it was very tasty. We look forward to continuing to send more treats to the shelter each Wednesday and working to support those in need in the community. We have been very impressed with the enthusiasm of the students involved, the fantastic teamwork that has gone on across a wide variety of ages and hope that they will prepare some of the food that they have learnt to cook with their families.
