Amazing Mathletes!

On Saturday 21st November a group of 38 students from Year 6 - 9 went to the annual QSi Math Tournament where approximately 200 students from as far as Malta took part.  It was day full of challenging maths and the students were fantastic.   They put in 100% effort, and even though they said they found some of it hard, they still enjoyed the day.

There were three different rounds.  First of all was the individual event where they had to answer different questions by themselves.  Then they were put together into groups of 4 to take part in the Team event.  Additional tie-break rounds took place where scores were even. Finally, still in their teams, they took part in a problem solving activity where they had to build the tallest tower they could out of gummy bears and tooth picks.  The room was full of energy and there were lots of different and interesting ideas on how to complete this engineering challenge.

After this the results were announced and an air of trepidation filled the room.  How did we do?  Were we going to get any prizes?  Our BISB teams did extremely well.
