ENERGOLAND VISIT

Earlier this term the Year 10 students went to Energoland Visitor’s Centre in Mochovce.

  • Energoland trip

There was a new and exciting interactive exhibition that was focussed on Energy Resources, an important part of the IGCSE syllabus. The first encounter was a station where small groups ran like crazy on the spot, on pizo-electric flooring, where they could see the amount of electricity they generated displayed as bars on a giant LED board.  You can imagine how popular this activity was!  We were also treated to a 3D film that traced the formation of energy resources on our planet, starting from the dawn of time and projecting into the future. There was also touch screen information on energy consumption around the world, where students could focus on individual countries, comparing their outputs.  We were photographed with thermal cameras, showing our body temperatures, we rode motorcycles through simulations of Ancient Rome and we discovered our carbon footprints. As the centre is attached to a Nuclear Power Plant, we also learnt a lot about the process of generating electricity, as well as the safety and disposal aspects of running a power plant. We completed the day with an interesting bus tour of the power plant grounds itself.

All in all it was a great trip that is best described by the slogan used by Energoland itself, INFOTAINMENT. A destination we will be happy and eager to return to next year.
