Winter Spartan Race Svit 2016

"The Spartan Race is a true adventure that everyone should try!"

And they are right! Athletes and non athletes of different ages, nationalities and fitness levels took part of the winter Spartan Race in Svit on the 23rd of January 2016.

With colleagues from the BISB and few members of the Slovak Shamrocks GAA Football Club we decided to take on this year’s challenge of the winter Spartan race. Waking up into a wonderful sunny day, enjoying the backdrop of the Tatra mountains while climbing, crawling and participating in all of the obstacles the organizers of the race prepared for us.  The snow was crunching under our feet, the sun was shining on our faces and the -18 degrees didn't stop us from embracing the challenges ahead of us.  We were expected to climb ropes, crawl under a maze of wire, jump over walls and carry sacks of sand up hill and sledge down on them - by far our favourite obstacle! For some of us it wasn't the first time to face the 7.7 km and 20 obstacles that we overcame.

The feeling of accomplishment that came once we jumped over the last obstacle and we crossed the finish line was priceless. We had been challenged physically, emotionally and mentally for over an hour and we had to persevere to keep going to complete it. It was a true example of sportsmanship as competitors helped each other so that all could achieve success! An amazing experience!
