The Duke of Edinburgh International Award

On Tuesday, 21st June 2016, thirty seven of our Secondary School students were awarded the Duke of Edinburgh International Award for completing the Bronze or Silver Level. Out of the total of seventy participants who were awarded their certificate and pin, the cohort from our school was the largest, partially due to the fact that the D of E has been delivered at BIS from 2007.

The students represented the school in front of HM Ambassador to Slovakia, Andrew Garth, and the President of the Slovak Republic, Andrej Kiska to receive this prestigious award. Once again, our students made us proud: Dressed smartly, delighted with their achievements and appreciating the dignified acknowledgements of their year long commitment.

The aim of the D of E programme is to encourage young people develop young peoples’ talents, teach the value of volunteering, sport and other activities. President Kiska appreciated the students' hard work and commitment at the awards ceremony: "What makes us good people is not just what we achieve in school, but also to what we are willing to do besides school, in which activities we are willing to get involved”. He wished the students "to grow and develop the seeds of the activities that they have sown throughout the program.”
