Year 3A Class Teacher

I trained as a Teacher in Brisbane, Australia [my home town] and received a Bachelor of Education from Queensland University of Technology in 2001.

After working for 2 years in various short and medium term cover positions ranging from preschool to high-school classes, I left Australia and started teaching in the UK.  During my UK teaching time, I worked for 18 months as a primary supply teacher in East London before moving to Scotland and taking a break from teaching for a further 18 months.  After this time, I moved to West Sussex and taught primary for 3 and a half years in Bognor Regis.

I returned to Australia for 6 months away from teaching again before making the move to Slovakia where I started working at the British International School in 2010.Over the years I have tried quite a variety of different hobbies.  From the age of 4-24, I trained in classical ballet, including also a little less training in contemporary and modern styles and a touch of musical theatre thrown in to make it interesting.  While at university I got involved in Medieval Re-enactment [including making my own authentic armour], performing stand-up comedy for several years at clubs around Brisbane as well as performing as a DJ, then VJ [video DJ] at the Royal Children’s Hospital’s in-house radio station.

When I left Australia and eventually made it to Scotland I learned to clay-pigeon shoot as well as the basics of sheep shearing.  My most recent area of endeavour was gaining a basic plumbing qualification while living in West Sussex.

What the students say about me:

"Mr Walker is an amazing teacher and he has an extremely funny sense of humour."

"Mr Walker is a funny teacher and you can have lots of fun with him.  However he also teaches clearly and explains well."

"I like Mr Walker because he is funny and because he plays music and because he is kind."
