On the 11th November, a small group of students and staff were humbled and lucky enough to take part in two Remembrance Services in Kanchanabauri.
The first service in the morning was held at Don Rak War Graves by The Reverend Timothy Eady from Christ Church Bangkok. There were dignitaries from many Commonwealth countries, including the British Ambassador, who all laid wreaths to remember those who had given their lives for their country. There were several other International schools from around Thailand in attendance, including Regents School Bangkok. Pi and Camille (Year 10) and Thomas (Year 9) were selected to lay a wreath on behalf of the whole Regents family.
The students were also humbled to meet Mr. Archie Dunlop BEM, a World War Two veteran from Britain, who was also in attendance at the service. All students were a credit to the school, helping the Royal British Legion prepare for the Service by organising the wreaths and handing out of the order of service to guests as they arrived. Although we were incredibly busy, we also managed to squeeze in a quick visit to ‘The Bridge Over the River Kwai’ between services!
Regents were the only school invited to take part at the second service held in the afternoon at Chong Kai Cemetery. This was a much smaller affair, and it was here that the Brass Group students from Regents performed the Last Post.
Afterwards many members of the Royal British Legion were quick to praise the students on a very good performance and hoped to see us at next year’s service.
