Secondary Students excel again in the LAMDA speech and drama exams
This has been another highly successful year for LAMDA students in Secondary with 27 candidates entered resulting in a very encouraging set of results, including 16 Distinction, 9 Merit and 2 Pass Grades.
This has been another highly successful year for LAMDA students in Secondary with 27 candidates entered resulting in a very encouraging set of results, including 16 Distinction, 9 Merit and 2 Pass Grades. In particular, there were outstanding performances by Year 7 student Dylan Callaway with 95 points and James Roh and Jin Jang Choi in Year 10 who gained 92 points each. The numerous positive comments in this year’s examiner’s reports underlined the positive impact that the LAMDA programme is having in our school.
LAMDA, a short form of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, is a well-established Drama Academy in London with a global reputation for excellence, LAMDA offers a range of Drama and Communications courses including Acting, Mime, Devising Theatre and Musical Theatre.
Students are given the choice of working alone on a solo piece, extracted from a well-known play script or novel; working in partnership with another student to develop a duologue or choosing the combined exam which means presenting one monologue and a duologue. The pieces are presented from memory to a visiting LAMDA-appointed examiner who then asks a series of questions which test the knowledge and understanding of the candidates on their chosen pieces. Successful students are awarded with an attractive certificate and a detailed written report which focuses on their strong points but also identifies areas in which they can improve their performance. Preparation for the LAMDA exams include carefully-chosen fun games, team-building ensemble activities and Drama exercises which aim to give the students an in-depth understanding of the characters in their situations. Students are particularly encouraged to research the back ground to their characters and read the whole play or novel from which their piece originates. Particular emphasis is given to the development of movement and physical theatre skills as well as the different elements of voice production.
This year’s Secondary results were matched by equally successful outcomes for the Primary students. By attending on Saturday morning students from across the school have also been fund-raising for Women with a Mission, one of the Regents’ longest-standing Round Square community partners. A cheque for the grand total of 15000 baht was presented to the joint CEO of Women with a Mission, Ms Rosanne Diamente at the Primary Assembly held on Friday 3rd June.
LAMDA goes from strength to strength at the Regents’ International School, so hearty congratulations to all the excellent students who took part in the class of 2016.
