New Parents Get to Know the Community Group

The first day of the school year can be both exciting and a little daunting – for the parents as well as the children! To welcome our new parents, the Community Group held a special New Parent Coffee Morning today, straight after school drop-off.

Around 60 parents came along for a relaxed and informal chat with other new parents and members of the Community Group. Principal Patrick Horne kicked things off with a welcome for one and all, and then our new Community Group Chairperson, Jody Dexter, gave a brief but informative talk about what the community group does. Jody also introduced Katrin Dressino who is the new Charities Coordinator and who spoke about our work with local charities and encouraged new parents to get involved.

We welcomed parents from around the globe today; it is great to have so many nationalities represented in our school community. Many questions were asked and answered by Community Group members who have been here for a few years or a few months, and we hope the extra knowledge will help our new families settle in smoothly and quickly.

Many of those who attended took the opportunity to sign up to help at upcoming community events, as well as for some of our ongoing activities, including our orphanage visits.

Our next coffee morning will be on Wednesday 26th AUGUST in the Forum from 8:40am, so please come along. This is for ALL PARENTS! You will have the opportunity to chat to Community Group members, catch up with 'old' friends and make new ones. There will also be various stalls from the local community in Shanghai displaying information on topics such as medical, dental, sports and much more.

It will also give you the opportunity to get involved with our various events over the school year, whether it is the upcoming Family Picnic, International Food Fair, the Christmas Bazaar, or any of our other events, there is something for everyone to get involved in.

REMEMBER, many hands make light work, and we have FUN too.
