Day 1

The event started with an opening ceremony and the Principal, Mrs. Wallace, highlighting the positives of playing football and the importance of team play, respect for the rules, referees, opposition and team mates. This was what we expected and witnessed throughout the tournament.

The first day we saw many good games with our BISS Pudong boys’ black team surprisingly drawing their first game 2-2 with BCIS. From then on, the BISS Pudong boys’ black team did not look back and won their next two games 10-0 against KAS and 3-0 against SCIS HQ.

The BISS Pudong girls started the tournament by putting 14 goals past BIS BJ as their main opponents in the tournament; SCIS HQ girls put 10 past BCIS. The second game for the girls was a match of the titans against SCIS HQ with the game ending with 1-1 draw. It was a great game with both teams going all out for the win.

The BISS Pudong boys’ yellow team began the tournament playing a strong, well-organized SCIS HQ team and was unfortunate not to get a result losing 3 goals to 1, with SCIS HQ scoring two very late goals. In their second and third games of the day the yellow boys’ team performed exceptionally well beating BIS BJ 4-0 and KAS 8-0.

Day 2

The second day of football started with our BISS Pudong boys’ black team beating the BISS Pudong boys’ yellow team 6-0. The game was followed by the BISS Pudong boys’ black team’s last game where they won 10–1 against BIS BJ. The boys’ yellow team followed up the defeat by drawing 1-1 with BCIS in a very tight game playing for third and fourth place for the semi-finals. Our BISS Pudong black team ended the group phase in first place with four wins and a draw.

The BISS Pudong girls’ team won both their games on the second day by 8-0 against BCIS and 3-0 against KAS. They ended the group phase on equal points with SCIS HQ but were second place due to SCIS HQ having a better goal difference.

Day 3

The final day, Saturday, was the knock-out phase of the tournament. In the girls’ semi-finals we witnessed our BISS Pudong team win 2-0 in a tight game against a hard working KAS team. SCIS HQ won their semi-final by 7 goals to nil against BCIS.

The boys’ semi-finals saw our BISS Pudong black team beat the BISS Pudong yellow team 7-1. The yellow team worked really hard, but was outplayed by a formidable BISS Pudong black team who entered the final with lots of confidence.

The BISS Pudong yellow team played BCIS for the 3rd place trophy and they worked tirelessly to get a goal but were beaten 2-0 by a talented BCIS boys’ team. The BISS Pudong yellow team should be proud of their performance as a team, with many outstanding individual performances throughout the tournament from all the players, especially from the captain Helmut Arbet, Joaquin Rios, Matias Rojas and the never-say-die Aleksander Niggli.

The finals were battles of the titans from two schools that continue to face each other in the ACAMIS football finals for both the boys and girls for the last four years. The boys’ final was a very close game. The SCIS HQ team created a well-worked goal to go in at half time leading by one goal. In the second half, the BISS Pudong black team came out determined to score and attacked consistently. They were so close but SCIS HQ caught the team by breaking out at speed and scored two late goals to secure a 3-0 victory. The BISS Pudong boys black team was outstanding throughout the tournament, playing wonderful, entertaining, attacking football. Each player who represented the team was a determined, talented individual who worked so well as a team. Lastly, as a team, they deserve immense praise for their efforts and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

The last game of the tournament was a very tight final between two great teams. The BISS Pudong girls’ team was the better team in the first half but did not get the goal their performance deserved. In the second half, SCIS HQ started to dictate the game and began to press the BISS Pudong goal. The girls defended really well and, as we were so close to extra time, SCIS HQ created a great cross with the girl scoring with a volley from the back post. No matter how hard the girls tried to equalize, they could not break down a well-drilled SCIS HQ defence. The game ended with a 1-0 victory for SCIS HQ.

It was a great event and the coaches, Mr. Northridge, Mr. Dawson and Mr. Grant deserve immense praise for how well they prepared the teams for the tournament.
