Students in Year 10 have now received their first round of assessment results and report data. This is a clear indication of how well students are progressing and of their current levels. There were many outstanding reports and promising grades which bode well. However, some results may be below what your child and you may be hoping for, please rest assured that the IGCSE course is over 2 years and therefore their results will improve correspondingly throughout the course.

At this stage I would like to highlight several students who achieved outstanding reports in terms of their ‘effort’ grades across all subjects. These students listed below achieved near perfect (or some perfect) ‘excellent’ teacher assessments in all categories:

10A: Lovisa, Angela, Ana Paula, Jenny, Sylvia, Georgina, Kajsa, Simon, Joseph, Hosang, Shota

10B: Hagar, Chiara

10C: Josephin, Amelia, Sarah, Mira, Pranav, William, Alex, Harry

10D: Mina, Giulia, Aga, Catharina, Marcel, Ethan, Arianna

Alongside these ‘effort’ grades, there are also many students who are already achieving A* grades in some of their subjects. I would like to congratulate these amazing students on reaching these dizzy heights already in Year 10, term one. These students are:

Angela, Hosang, Lovisa, Jenny, Kajsa, Shota, Yu, Hagar, Chiara, Ticiano, Amelia, Sarah T, William, Giulia.

Well done to all these students. Keep up the good work and keep being a model for you peers.

View from the classroom

Biology Year 10 Biology are focusing on Respiration at the moment. They have undertaken a variety of experiments to demonstrate the reactants and products involved in the reactions of respiration. This week they have been working with meal worms. The meal worms are inserted into a respirator and the volume of oxygen consumed is recorded.  This is a very visual and clear method to demonstrate the use of the reactants in respiration.

Mandarin - Students in Year 10 Mandarin beginner class have completed their first summative first 3 units test (listening, reading and writing) to an excellent standard.  It was very pleasing to see Kajsa Persson scored 39 out of 40 in her reading. Harry Lonsdale scored the top score in Listening 38 out of 40. Students are now learning topics related to school life and they are able to talk about what subjects they have etc.

Geography - Year 10 students have been studying how we measure weather and climate in preparation for a small scale investigation around the school looking at the effects of micro-climates on weather conditions in different locations around the site.

Business Studies - Students have been looking at enterprise and entrepreneurship, learning about the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs.

German - The Year 10 German students have an adventurous multimedia homework task this week - they're making video diaries to show their home routines in German! They have to film themselves going about their daily life at home, and add German voice-over to say (accurately of course) what they are doing. This is a great way to bring to life the topic of separable & reflexive verbs and Miss Ford is looking forward to seeing the results when they hand it in on Friday 20th November.

History – Year 10 are currently studying the impact of World War Two on Nazi Germany, and how the conflict impacted the Nazi regime, eventually leading to the downfall of Hitler.
