In English next week the children will focus on improving their writing. They will start the week by developing their thesaurus skills, choosing adjectives for description and trying to find ‘wow’ words. They will then use these to write descriptions of some of the characters from George’s Marvellous Medicine. Following on from this, the children will be editing writing, checking for sense, tense, punctuation and spelling. As well as this, they will also be exploring some of the character’s thoughts and feelings at various points in the story through drama. Our Guided Reading focus is to identify and discuss themes and conventions in a wide range of writing.
Our Maths focus next week will be statistics. The children will look at units of measure, using addition and subtraction skills to compare different measurements. They will also revise data handling – collecting data, presenting it in a variety of ways and interpreting data in graphs.
In Computing the children will be developing questions to be included in their surveys. The children will consider how to collect data, looking at open ended questions, multiple choice options and choosing from a list, amongst others. They will then have to design their survey, trying to include a mixture of each type of question.
The children have really enjoyed our current Science unit Shake It! We will be holding our exit point activity on Friday 5th February and you will all be invited! More details will follow. Continuing the unit, next week the children will learn more about reversible and irreversible changes. They will investigate some of the ways that they can make cheese and identify some chemical changes that cannot be reversed.
