ENGLISH

In English next week we will be covering a number of different objectives. In SPAG, children will focus on the spelling rule for writing 'ough' words whilst in reading children will learn how to retrieve, record and present information from non fiction books.
In contrast to this, English writing will focus on fiction stories. In particular, how to create mood and atmosphere. Continuing with a story children started last week they will focus on editing and improving their work. The following objectives will be the focus:
- To use a thesaurus
- To ensure consistent and correct use of tense
- To further cohesive devices such as grammatical connections and adverbials.

MATHEMATICS

This week in Maths children have begun work on fractions. Next week in Maths we will continue with this; children will be consolidating their understanding of the connection between fractions, decimals and percentages.

Children will also learn how to recall and use equivalences between simple fractions, decimals and percentages, including in different contexts. This work will then be applied to a range of questions and word problems to assess understanding.

Children will continue to self assess their learning and address their learning objectives to ensure understanding of their own progress.

TOPIC

As out unit on 'Our Wonderful World' draws to an end, children will spend some time next week revisiting some of the learning objectives covered. Working in groups children will create a movie or presentation to summarise the teaching and learning within this unit. Across the year group, children will work in groups to cover a number of different objectives. The final iMovie will be a collaboration between all the children and will explain to you all the work children have done in this unit. We will send this home for your viewing and enjoyment!

Next week also sees the beginning of our new unit entitled 'Out of Africa'. Children will collate a knowledge harvest outlining what they may already know about this topic of Evolution and Inheritance. They will also take part in an 'entry point' for this unit which will enable children to get excited and engaged with the subject matter.
