With the launch of STEAM on Thursday and Hallowe’en on Friday it has certainly been an eventful week here at NAIS Pudong! As Mr Scrymgeour mentioned in his section of the newsletter we are fortunate for our collaboration with MIT and our STEAM initiative launched on Thursday and it started out with a bang. On this occasion our focus was on designing and engineering and it encouraged creativity and teamwork. The Big Draw project involved all the phases from the school from four year olds to eighteen year olds. Our Year Sixes spent most of the day in C Block which was not only a great opportunity to work collaboratively with KS3 but also works as part of their transition into Secondary. Years Three, Four and Five worked together in their houses designing, building and testing floating rafts and sturdy bridges. As for our Infants and Early Years children they had similar challenges which were designed to encourage children to think creatively and critically.
Hallowe’en dress up day saw some fabulous costumes on Friday and we would like to thank all our parents for their generous donations for our Tanzania project.
We expect lots of family fun at the Culturefest in Jingqiao on Saturday and Sunday and look forward to seeing our NAIS families there. Lastly and by no mean least, we wish our U9 and U11 Football Teams all the best at the Primary Football Tournament at Wellington this Saturday. Go Tigers!
Next week sees the visit of the UK National Space Academy and we are thrilled to have our Junior students taking part in ‘Space’ themed workshops on Friday 4th October, I believe there could be some very exciting science experiments taking place. As an added opportunity the agency will be putting on a lecture for Primary students and their parents on how humans travel to space, why they might want to go there, and what dangers and treasures they might find out there. Sounds too exciting to miss, we hope to see you there.
