English

In our English lessons this week we will be looking at being able to take our knowledge of using inverted commas and applying it to being able to write quotations. From here we will embed these skills by writing a newspaper article about Charlie Bucket finding the golden ticket. Alongside this, we will look at the whole writing process and use our skills of editing and improving our newspaper reports before writing our final draft. Towards the end of the week we will be exploring the use of causal and time conjunctions through writing a diary from the point of view of Charlie.

Guided Reading: This week in guided reading we are going to be focussing on being able to summarise our ideas. We will be reading our books, discussing the main events and then rewriting these in one paragraph.

Spellings: During our spellings lessons this week we will be looking at the prefixes anti- and inter-

Maths

In maths this week we will be exploring the use of formal written method for multiplication. We will begin the week by using short multiplication to multiply  a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number. As the week progresses we will begin to challenge ourselves further by being able to use this method to complete  a 3 digit multiplication by a 1 digit number. We will then use these skills to apply our knowledge to word problems. During our mental and oral starters this week we will be focusing on basic skills. We will be ensuring that we can quickly calculate simple addition and subtraction mental and reconsolidating our learning on columnar addition and subtraction methods.

Topic

This week in topic we will be continuing to be technologists, we will be developing the process of designing our own chocolate bars. We will write our own questionnaires to ask about the effectiveness of our wrapper designs across the three classes. From here we will analyse our results and modify our wrapper designs accordingly. At the end of the week we will finalise our designs and then write up our own evaluations.
