Overview of learning

During our first week back to school we will spend some time to share our holiday news. Through whole class circle time and small group focused time children will have the opportunity to develop their communication, language and listening skills as they talk about their adventures and take turns listening to their friends. We will be focusing on speaking clearly and in complete sentences.

We want to deepen the children’s understanding of their immediate environment and broaden their knowledge of the wider world so will be exploring winter and what we need to keep warm. We will also be learning about colder parts of the world such as the Artic, the animals that live there, the Inuit people and the homes that they live in.

To develop the children’s understanding of mathematical concepts and language we will focus on measurement. The children will be comparing and ordering objects by length and using non-standard units, such as paper clips or cubes to measure and compare.
