English

Next week we will continue to focus on the skills based around non-fiction texts. Using the research and note-taking skills that we developed last week, students will be planning and writing their own information texts. Initially, we will be working on our note-taking skills.  After this, we will look closely at the skills of organising work into subheadings. Following this, we will look at the structure of our sentences and ensuring that we are writing in the correct tense.

Maths

Next week, Year 4 will begin learning about the coordinate plane. Students will be learning how to describe positions on a 2-D grid as coordinates. This will begin in the first quadrant and continue to all four quadrants as students master this skill. Following this, students will then be learning how to plot specified points and draw sides to complete a polygon.

Topic

This week in topic, Year 4 will be revisiting the digestive system.  We have already touched on this through English, as we were using the digestive system as the basis for our learning on non-fiction texts. In addition to this, we will be learning about the life cycle – how we grow from babies to adults.  Finally, we will be looking at healthy living and our School Nurse Ms. Kristina Strohbuecker will be speaking to the children about making healthy choices when eating and how exercise is good for our overall health.
