Summer Performing Arts Camp with Juilliard

Applications are now open for the 2016 Summer Performing Arts Summer Programme with Juilliard.  The programme, taking place from July 9 - 22 at our Nord Anglia Education school in Geneva, is a unique opportunity for children to enjoy one-to-one sessions along with group lessons with Juilliard artists and guests.  For more details and to register interest click here.

English

Having written monologues from the point of view of a Mayan villager warning their people of the impending demise of the empire, next week children will focus on a Big Write and create a newspaper report to report the events of the demise. Children will have the opportunity to evaluate, edit and re-write this in order to develop their skills and apply the objectives. We will also do some work on mythical stories looking at setting, character and building atmosphere.

Maths

During next week’s learning children will revisit their learning on Algebra. We will reinforce prior learning to ensure clear understanding and embed this knowledge within a real context. Children will generate and describe linear sentences, express numbers algebraically and find pairs of numbers to satisfy an equation with two unknowns.

Topic

This week, we started a new unit of work in Topic: AD 900. The children had a successful entry point sharing short dramas and presentations to teach their year group about a specific ancient civilisation. Following on from this, next week will see the children researching and representing their results in a number of different ways. Children will continue to learn about the Mayan, Benin and Islamic civilisations focusing on how to compare ancient civilisations; how to understand codices; how to distinguish between right from wrong; and, how to have a deeper understanding of other religions.
