Having the opportunity to compete in a 50m long course outdoor pool gave a great opportunity for our more experienced swimmers to compete in more demanding events such as the 400m IM and the 400m Freestyle. Competing against some National swimmers, the team swam some phenomenal races, breaking every single long course record held by NAIS Pudong for every event in every age category. This amounted to over sixty new long course records. Our 15 years and over swimmers; Alexander Steel, Harry Lu, Nian Yun Tan, Anna Moustakas and Myong Kyu Han also gained places in finals where they were competing against Thai, Filipino and Indonesian champions who have Olympic B qualifying times. Many students received ribbons for being placed in the top 10 within their age group in their race. We also had Medals for 3rd place in the women's 15 years and over 400m freestyle relay consisting of Anna Moustakas, Nian Yun Tan, Louise Way and Gaia Becker.
Swimmer of the event went to Elle Tay, coming 3rd in the 200m Freestyle, 200m Individual Medley and 50m Butterfly. For the boys, Max Dahl was the overall point winner for NAIS Pudong improving all of his times finishing in the top 10 for 100m Butterfly, 50m Butterfly and 50m Freestyle.
Words cannot express the team spirit and sheer determination that each and every one of these swimmers put in – this was not only a fantastic team but a team of exceptional individuals. The individual acts of kindness and consideration we witness from the swimmers to one another was so heart-warming and motivating. The commitment and support was outstanding, ensuring that all were encouraged and wanted to swim their best.
With motivation exceptionally high we move into the Senior Swim at SCIS Pudong on 19th February and the SSL Championships on 27th and 28th February.
A special thanks to Mr Keenan, Coach Cheryl and Coach Jennie for making this swim meet one that we will not forget.
I am looking forward to seeing all of the Tiger Sharks training in the pool to build on this positive and outstanding performance.
