As you are aware, next week is Book Week. As Book Week has an exciting Sci-Fi twist to it this year, we are continuing to look at our award winning text, Team Moon, which tells the story of the 400,000 people who helped land and safely return the Apollo 11 mission. We will be revising some of our previous writing skills in order to write some imaginative writing linked to the text. This will include news reports, job advertisements and diary entries. We will also be getting into role as the various roles that were played, tying in with our Careers focus in Guidance last week. We will be making predictions and inferences about the challenges faced by the team, and use our problem-solving skills to work collaboratively and suggest solutions.

Maths

This week in maths, the children have been sorting polygons according to a criteria, they have also been identifying 3D shapes from 2D drawings. In class, we have familiarised ourselves with the use of the protractor and we have utilised our angle skills so that we are more efficient at estimating and measuring angles.

Next week in maths, we will focus on reflecting and translating shapes. The children will investigate missing angles on shapes, around a point and on a straight line. We will also be exploring corresponding angles. The children will also be learning about the terminology and key words associated with angles. At the end of the week, we will recap on the names for 2D shapes and their properties as this is an area the children have found a little tricky.

Topic

Next week is Book Week so the children will be taking part in lots of activities to excite them about reading. We will have a book quiz where the children will work in collaborative teams to answer questions about well-known children’s books. In addition, the children will be completing some Art activities linked to Book Week and Space. As Scientists, the children will continue to learn about the Space Race. They will also attend a talk about Space from one of our Secondary school science teachers to expand their knowledge on this topic. Nearer the end of the week, the children will learn about why we have night and day. Finally, they will start to understand the phases of the moon.
