NAIS Tigers Football Match Reports

The D1 NAIS Tigers boys 11-a-side team played Concordia International School under the lights last Friday. Concordia dominated the game right from the start with an early goal and went from strength to strength. After 20 minutes, Joe Paveley scored an equaliser after some good attacking play. After that unfortunately the team fell apart and Concordia scored two goals in five minutes leading to the half time break. In the second half we played slightly better but were always second to the ball and just could not score or play our passing game. The game finished with Concordia deservedly winning 3 – 1. Our boys were very disappointed with their performance and know they need to improve in the next game.

The D1 Girls NAIS Tigers also played a very strong Concordia girls team. They worked tirelessly to keep Concordia at bay and the defense was outstanding, with Giulia Teobaldi and Jennifer Thornton stopping all attacks. Just before half time, Concordia struck with a great move and broke the deadlock. In the second half, the team continually worked hard as a team and created some good attacking play but was hit by a great second goal from Concordia. The game finished with Concordia winning 2 – 0 but the girls should be pleased that they competed well against a great team and they know what to do to improve and challenge Concordia in the future.

U13 FOBISIA Friendly Football at Dulwich College

The U13 boys and girls FOBISIA teams played Dulwich College in friendly football games to prepare for the U13 FOBISIA games. The girls team went ahead early on and were leading by 2 – 0 at half time with goals from Madeline Lum and Josephine Lonsdale. In the second half, the girls were defending well and still breaking out and creating chances. The last ten minutes of the game we saw Dulwich score two late goals to get a draw. It was a great performance and good preparation for our U13 girls football team for FOBISIA.

The boys’ game was a great game of football with lots of passing and moving. The boys team created lots of chances with Matthew Ward creating havoc in their defence. Their goalkeeper stopped everything thrown at him and Dulwich broke out and scored to go ahead by 1 – 0. In the second half, again we created lots of chances and the Dulwich goalkeeper and defenders were blocking all of our attacks. They broke out again to score another goal. We got back with a great strike by Mikkel Raaen and then Matthew Ward scored a good goal but again Dulwich scored a late goal to win 3 – 2. It was a good game of football and great preparation for our boys team. I feel the boys will be prepared for all challenges they will get in football at the FOBISIA games.

Shanghai Swim League Championships

Last weekend saw 70 students from our Year 2 to Year 12 swim squad compete in a fantastic event with over 1,000 other competitors. For some this was their first competition, so the nerves were high as they went through marshaling before being up on the blocks and ready to go. All students swam with guts and determination with many heat winners, which brought a smile to their faces receiving their winners ribbon as they climbed out of the water.

On Saturday, there were placements for Nian Yun Tan in the 100m butterfly and the 200m Individual Medley, and Ciara Wallace as 8th overall in the 50m Freestyle. However, Sunday is where we competed exceptionally well with many records set and personal bests broken. Placements in the top eight in their event were recorded by Elle Tay, Max Dahl, Leonard Chang, Emily McCullough, Sophie Tsui and Abby Dexter.

As always the team spirit, especially in the parade, the support from pool side and from the viewing gallery, and through marshalling was just amazing. A special thank you to the parents for all your assistance to ensure the event ran smoothly, along with your continuous cheers and encouragement.
