Letter from the Head of Secondary - 3rd March 2016

This week has been a busy one, with two Academic Review Evenings and assessments ongoing for students in Years 7, 8, 9, and 10. Next week, however, is possibly going to be one of the busiest weeks of the year in Secondary as, in addition to all the usual activities going on in our busy school, we have feedback in lessons on the recent assessments, and we have four performances of the much anticipated production of Beauty and the Beast! This includes the super-glamorous Red Carpet first night on Tuesday, when we hope to see all those attending dressed up to the nines, in outfits befitting the occasion.

The students (and staff) have been working incredibly hard on Beauty and the Beast for months, and are really looking forward to finally having the opportunity to perform in front of a full audience.  I am sure that we are all going to be treated to some wonderful performances and a memorable evening.  Please note that tickets are not available on the door and are sold out for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, so please do not bring along guests without tickets, as we will have to turn them away.

To add to the excitement next week we also have our Careers and University Fair ‘Keep Calm and Career On’ on Thursday. There are over 30 universities from across the world and a similar number of representatives from different types of careers participating in this year’s event – it is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn more about different types of careers and the university pathways to follow to take them there.

From 2.15pm to 3.15pm, our students in Years 7, 8 and 9 will attend the Careers and University Fair, accompanied by their teachers, and will have the opportunity to hear from a car designer about his career path.

From 3.30pm to 5.30pm, students in Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 are strongly encouraged to attend the fair and, where possible, be accompanied by their parents. Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 are welcome to stay on, and parents are also encouraged to attend at this time, so you can explore the opportunities open to your son/daughter, or attend one of the workshops run by a number of inspiring speakers, including a panel of women in business in China, a finance expert, a professional sports person and a fashion designer.

I look forward to seeing many of you at one or more of these events over the coming week.

Dinah Hawtree
