New Primary Lunchtime Clubs

During a Student Council meeting last term, some of the representatives expressed a need for children to be doing other activities on red and wet days. Student Council made their own questionnaire to interview children in their class to ask for ideas of activities they would like to do.  It was through this initial discussion and questionnaire that the new Primary Lunchtime Clubs were born, with the idea of offering them every day; not just on red and wet days.

The top five most popular activities were chosen by Student Council, who helped to recruit leaders, from across Years 3 to 6, to run them.  Presently, we have club leaders running reading, sketching, iMovie, computing and origami clubs twice a week for students from Year 3 to Year 6.

The leaders are left to run the clubs how they wish, with the option of tailor-making them for the children that attend.  The clubs give the attendees a chance to mix with other children, while learning a new skill from their peers. This is also a great opportunity for the children running the clubs.  It will help improve their confidence and provide them with responsibility and leadership skills.

So far the clubs are proving so popular, that the plan is to offer more of them in the future.
