English

In English next week, children will have the opportunity to embed their recent learning about an author’s use of language and their understanding of using expanded noun phrases and ‘show not tell’ to create stories which encompass a number of their writing objectives. Children will be given planning time to prepare their story during which they will work in pairs of small teams to share ideas and support one another. Having shared in some writing together in order to begin their story, children will then work independently to continue and finish their stories. Children will then have particular support in writing  effective and interesting story endings.

Maths

Next week in Maths, the children will continue to extend their application and understanding of fractions. We will revisit how to calculate with fractions and how to find equivalent, simple and mixed fractions. Children will practice all these things and work towards embedding this knowledge by answering word problems at the end of the week. Children will learn to decipher the question within the word problem and use their knowledge of the order of operations to decide how to solve the question and work with fractions to calculate the response.

Topic

We are nearing the end of our Fairgrounds unit. Children have had a fantastic term learning about the mechanics and forces behind different fairground games. They have excelled themselves in creating some fairground rides and games themselves. Next week we will move onto a more social level of this unit as we discuss the environmental and social impacts of having a fairground close to your home. Children will consider the pros and cons of a fair and discuss ways in which people can work together for mutual benefit. The children will research possible ways of reducing pollution in areas where fairgrounds reside and how to improve the environmental areas for these communities. Children will take part in some debates surrounding the idea of whether or not it is a positive thing to have a fair or theme park in your town.

We will also create some Art work around the theme of fairgrounds and work with colour and charcoal to create some images.
