Letter from the Director of Music and The Arts - 7th April 2016

As we start the final term of this academic year, I look forward to the upcoming events in Music, Drama and Art.

  • Orchestra

In Music we see two visits from Juilliard, once from our curriculum adviser Andrea Lee and once from two visiting artists, Michael and Jessica Shinn. Michael is Chair of Keyboard studies at The Juilliard School whilst Jessica, also a pianist, is a very accomplished and sought-after soloist. They will visit us on 14th June so please look out for more details on this visit.

Also this term we have our final concert of the year, Stage and Screen. Our choirs and orchestra will be performing at this event which will take place on 12th May. Please remember to also sign up for your child’s individual music lessons for this term; there are still more instruments available for pupils to use and borrow free of charge whilst they have lessons and are at the school.

In Drama students are preparing for the Stage and Screen concert where pupils who take part in the Musical Theatre CCA will perform some of the pieces they have been working on throughout the year. We are also starting work on the Year 4, 5 and 6 Horrible Histories production. The script and music has been specially written for this event and pupils are very excited about getting onto the stage.

In Art we see some of our talented students in a Photography competition run by Urban Family magazine and we are very hopeful that they will pick up some fantastic awards. We have our fingers crossed. The IB Art Exhibition is still running so if parents would like to visit and take a look there is still an opportunity to do so. The IGCSE exhibition will soon take its place in the Exhibition Space.

There are so many exciting things to look forward to this term, I look forward to seeing you soon.

Phillip Bailey

Director of Music and The Arts
