English

Next week, children will revise the different uses of cohesive devices. We will theme this learning around our Topic on Fairgrounds and children will have the opportunity to do some longer pieces of writing focusing on using paragraphs. Children will identify the different reasons for using paragraphs and learn to use them at the correct times and in the correct way. Children will work on recognising this in author’s writing and using it in their own.

Maths

As we enter into the final term of the year, we are now beginning to revisit our Maths objectives. Over the coming weeks, we will ensure that children have a clear understanding of how to use and apply these objectives and present them to the children in a variety of contexts. Next week, we will revisit some of our Algebra work and focus on using simple formulae and finding all possible combinations for two variables. Where possible we will link these objectives to our Fairground themed topic.

Topic

Having started our new Topic of Fairgrounds, the children have had an excellent week experimenting through their Entry point by designing and creating their own fairground rides. Children worked collaboratively to design rides which would be exhilarating and exciting to ride. Next week, children will begin to learn about the physics behind how these rides work. We will learn about different forces and how their opposing force can enable objects to “defy gravity” and keep passengers safely in upside-down rides! Lessons will be practical and experimental. Children will also learn to make predictions before they collate results, to present their results using scientific language and evidencing their work effectively.
