Real Impact in Tanzania

NAIS Pudong Year 12 students this year were part of a whole of Nord Anglia project in Tanzania to make a lasting difference in communities there. The expedition programme sees students from 29 NAE schools visit Tanzania at various times throughout the year, each group building on the work of those who came before them. The following is an extract from a letter of thanks and recap of the achievements of this year, which was sent to all participants worldwide and their parents:

Following a highly successful set of Tanzania expeditions involving 600 participants from 29 of our schools the NAE Expedition Team, Seeway TZ and all of the associates who help make the expeditions possible would like to say a huge thank you to all students, teachers and parents that took part.

Over the last year students and staff have put a great deal of effort in raising funds and awareness within their schools and the larger community which resulted in some very positive projects in the communities of Kitefu and Imbaseni. These funds have translated into a great deal of support for Kitefu Primary school and the surrounding communities, over the 10 expeditions our students have completed the following projects:

·         Built one teacher accommodation building.

·         Expanded and completed and unfinished teacher accommodation building.

·         Built a toilet block and kitchen.

·         68 Smokeless Stoves

·         68 Solar Systems

·         68 Goat Sheds and Goats

·         The continued development of the permaculture programme at Engeresero Primary School at Lake Natron by British International School of Boston.

The impact of these projects on the community is huge and has without doubt changed lives and offered more opportunities to local people young and old enabling them to grasp their own future and develop the community as a whole.

In addition to this the generosity of students, parents and schools has been overwhelming with regard to donations, this year we have received more donations than we could process within the communities that we were working within. This led to the Seeway Team looking further afield to ensure that donations had maximum impact on the recipients.

Our plans for the coming year are looking good, at present we will be working with a new local primary school and a new community to ensure maximum impact on the region we are working within. 2016/17 looks like it will be bigger and better than ever.
