Year 11 News - 6th May

Last Friday 29th April was a big day for Year 11, as it was their final day of lessons before beginning their IGCSE study leave. This special day began with shirt-signing and photos in morning registration (pictured), with the students in an emotional yet cheerful mood. Next came the Awards Assembly (pictured), with students receiving awards not only for academic attainment and effort, but also, from their form tutors, for personal qualities such as Leadership, Improvement and commitment to Service. For me as their Year Leader, the form tutors’ speeches were the highlight of the event, as they spoke with great passion, enthusiasm and care about the positive qualities of their form groups. Thank you to Mrs Platt, Mr Mills and Mr Groark for their fantastic contributions to this special event. It was also lovely to see some parents there, and I know many more of you were there in spirit.

The special events of the day continued at lunchtime, with a special Celebration Lunch for the students. Pizzas were delivered from a local restaurant and consumed at record speed, as well as a vast array of snacks and drinks contributed by the students themselves: sushi, pastries, crisps, cakes, beef jerky, fruit juice and much more, not to mention the beautiful, heart-shaped iced cookies provided to each and every student and Year 11 teacher by our resident baker extraordinaire, Fernanda! Despite the fact that the pollution levels meant that this could not be held as the outdoor picnic we had planned, I think you will agree from looking at the photos that this was a lovely occasion and that the students enjoyed themselves very much.

As I write, the IGCSE exams are in full swing, with the students already having completed two English papers. I wish them all the best with their exams and urge them to maintain momentum with their revision as study leave continues.
