Year 8 News - 3rd June 2016

Success in Xiamen!

Matthew Ward and Jake Lonsdale went to Xiamen last weekend for a football tournament representing AKSIL U13s. Their team were outstanding throughout the whole tournament and never lost a match. This meant that they came away as league winners overall! Teams from Shanghai, Hong Kong, Xiamen, Guangzhou all competed for the top prize but it was our own Matty and Jake from Shanghai (and their team of course) that returned as victors! It was a great place to visit and they played in the oldest football stadium in China. Some achievement boys – well done!

Summer Fun Day

Get ready for an afternoon of fun and entertainment  with water games, climbing wall, shopping village, bouncy castles, raffle prize draw, food & drink vendors and more.

Year 8 Students have been planning their activities for the day and will be organizing, running and manning the Games stalls for the afternoon.  Many activities, from Treasure Hunt to Guess the Teacher, will be on offer. The students have spent their time in guidance getting themselves ready for the day, so please show your support , dig into your pockets and have a go next Saturday 4th June!

Global Campus Photographer of the Year

Back by popular demand! We are delighted to announce the return of the photography calendar competition -  2016 'Global Campus Photographer of the Year' competition. Over the coming weeks, we will share information about the competition - the who, what, why, when and how.

In the meantime, please encourage students to head to the online area (which can be accessed from the Competition page) to vote on the theme. If you have any additional suggestions for a theme, please do let us know! (global.campus@nordanglia.com)

Please note this is open to students of all age.

Everyone loves exams!

Term 3 Assessment Cycle has now finished. Students have been tested on their knowledge and understanding of all the topics covered so far this year in their academic subjects. Teachers will be marking the students’ papers over the next few weeks and will be using the data to determine students’ curriculum levels for the end of the year.

Lesson Updates & General

Geography with Mrs Kilpatrick
It is great to see Year 8 so well represented in the list of students who will be part of the “awe and wonder” trip to Iceland, next year at Chinese New Year, organised by the Geography Department. This trip has now been booked with flights from Shanghai to London and then on to Iceland! These students are really in for the adventure of a lifetime in the land of ice and fire and can look forward to walking on glaciers, swimming in volcanic pools and exploring lava tube caves. We look forward to hearing more of their plans as the weeks pass between now and their departure.

Student reporters

Freddie 8A for Science

In Science, we are using the time before the assessments to revise in lessons. It is really fun because it teaches the students to use the time wisely. I have been focusing on areas in science that I am not very good at. All of the other students have also been doing this.

Luke 8A for PE

In the last few lessons in PE we have been playing the game of softball. Collaborating as a group and as a team, we managed to hit several home runs and incredible catches. This particular sport taught us how to communicate as a team and work together to accomplish our goal which was to hit 10 home runs. At the end, we completed 14 home runs. This was all to do with the teamwork and commitment that was put into this sport by every student.

Joshua for ICT

During ICT we are currently learning the programme scratch. Scratch is a fun programme which can be used to make fun games and other things. During lessons, I have been working on various projects and mainly a maze game.  We usually read off  a worksheet as a base and change the script to fit our needs. Most of us have finished and are coming to the end of the projects. Overall ICT is a fun subject and I hope to enjoy more of it.
