English

Next week in English, we will continue to read and enjoy the book Energy Island. The children have really enjoyed the story this week and have learnt a lot about renewable energy. Next week, we will use extracts from the text to help us learn about the correct way to use apostrophes. The children will develop their understanding of how to use an apostrophe to show contraction (e.g. do not → don’t) and also learn how to use them to show possession (e.g. The car belonging to George → George’s car). Following this, the children will develop their skills in summarising the key points in a text. At the end of the week, the children will write a persuasive letter about why we should try to use renewable energies wherever possible.

Maths

In Maths next week, we will complete our final week of multiplicative reasoning. The children will consolidate their learning in multiplication and division by applying their mental and written skills in a variety of ways. They will also revise how to multiply and divide single-digit numbers by 10, using decimal numbers. We will also revise fractions, focusing on finding non-unit fractions of amounts in context – e.g. Finding ¾ of $76.

Topic

In topic next week, the children will continue their learning on volcanoes and earthquakes. They will learn how a seismometer works and they will attempt to make one to measure the force of their everyday movements. They will also  investigate what happens when a volcano erupts, drawing scientific diagrams of volcanoes and investigating different rock types.
