We continue the football theme tomorrow when we host the U9 and U11 football tournament at our campus. We will be welcoming several international schools from across Shanghai and the day promises to be full of goal scoring I’m sure. Please do come along, even if just for a short while, and support our primary students who are playing.
As I mentioned last week, Mr Scrymgeour and I have been going into all of our Early Years and Primary classrooms over the last couple of weeks, and this week alone we have seen fourteen different lessons! We have been absolutely thrilled at the quality of the work the children have been producing, the high standard of writing being completed and the vocabulary rich discussions that have been taking place. It has also been great to see how students have been building on their prior learning from last year; remembering the tricky grammatical terminology and using it correctly in their work. We have also been very impressed at how well our youngest students have settled into school and this week have seen our Reception children reading and writing in their lessons, and we’ve only been at school for five weeks! Our Nursery children were also brilliant and were able to identify rhyming sounds and rhythms in the lessons that we watched. I think this definitely sets the tone for the year ahead and the achievements our students are capable of making. I can’t wait to see what our students are able to accomplish this year. Of course, we need to thank our teachers for all of their hard work and effort for enabling our students to achieve such outcomes in all areas of the curriculum.
As we head towards the weekend, I am sure we are all busy preparing for International Week and the students are very much looking forward to representing their home countries next week as well as learning more about the variety of countries their peers come from. I look forward to seeing you at school next week, whether you are coming in to read a story from your home country, watch the Parade of Nations or are contributing a traditional dish for our International Food Fair.
Lastly, many congratulations go to Mr and Mrs Finan, teachers in Year 6 and Year 1, who celebrated the birth of their second child, Maya Mei on Monday. Mrs Finan and Maya are back home from the hospital and doing really well with the support of family. Thank you to everyone who has sent their good wishes to them.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
