Message from the Director of Music

My Focus this week looks at the Drama department and their start to the term.

It has been an exciting start of the year in Drama. Students have explored the fundamental aspects of Drama and learning how to master their voice and body language on stage. I have been very impressed with how students have developed these basic stage skills. As we look forward, students across the year group will start to study different drama styles and histories. Year 7 will explore Greek Theatre and experience performing in an amphitheatre while the Year 8 classes will explore the Italian Movement Commedia Dell Arte and start experimenting with street performances. In Year 9 they will be looking at the more traditional strands of theatre and develop characters from the text The Crucible by Arthur Miller. Let’s not forget the GCSE students who are currently preparing for their GCSE examination by developing the ghost story the Woman in Black.

We are also approaching the end of the audition period for Into the Woods and we have been so impressed by the talent that our students have shown!

During the next week we will have call-backs for the pupils who we feel could take on a role as a principal character in the show. In some cases we have four pupils that are perfect for one role such was the standard of the auditions during the last four weeks.  Keep your eyes peeled for the cast list and roles offered in the next few weeks.

Next week will see the International Food Fair and Parade of Nations on Thursday 29th September.  During the  extended lunchtime there will be some selected performers, plus outside artists entertaining us. Make sure you stop by one of the two sessions taking place in the C-block and listen to the very mixed and varied programme. The first one will be at 11.00am-11.40am and the second at 12.10pm-12.50pm.

Future Dates

Week Beginning – 26th September – Call-back for principal roles

Thursday 29th September – International Food Fair Lunchtime Concert
