· Reading books will be changed on a Monday and a Thursday. We have sent activities home with the children for you to try with them and their reading books.
· The weather is still warm at the moment so please ensure that your child is bringing both a water bottle and hat in everyday.

In English next week we are going to be exploring writing fact files based on South America. 4A will be exploring Peru, 4B Chile and 4C Brazil. We will use our knowledge of writing non-fiction texts from earlier on in the year and add to this. We will be learning how to write effective introductions and conclusions, as well as persuasive techniques to ensure readers want to travel to our South American countries. Alongside this we will also be using our learning centre time to find books suitable to our country. Once we have located these texts we will use our retrieval skills to find information relevant to our fact files.
Next week in maths we will begin to look at statistics. We will tie into international week by comparing populations and weather in different countries around the world. We will examine a wide range of graphs including bar charts, line graphs and pictographs. We will develop the skills to be able to interpret these graphs and answer complex questions relevant to the graph. As well as this we will use raw data from our research on South American countries to create our own range of graphs.
As next week is international week in Year 4 we will be looking at countries in South America. We will learn about 3 different countries from within South America: Brazil, Chile and Peru. We will look at information specific to their countries and look at similarities and differences between the South American countries, China and their home country. We will create fact files about our class’s country for a whole school treasure hunt on Friday. From here we will look at Peruvian artwork, Chilean cooking and Brazilian Samba dancing.
