English

In English next week we are going to be continuing on using our text “Grandpa’s Teeth”. We will recap our work on embedded clauses and fronted adverbials and develop them further through writing a diary from Grandpa’s point of view. We will develop our skills of being able to build tension and show how characters are feeling through our use of descriptive detail and discuss how our word choices have an impact on the reader. In our reading lessons we will further develop the skill of understanding how a character is feeling by using our inference skills. We will explore how we need our inference skills to really understand the text we are reading.

Maths

In maths we will begin to explore Roman Numerals. The children will begin by being able to read Roman Numerals up to XII. From here we will further stretch ourselves to be able to read Roman numerals up to C. We will deepen our knowledge by answering problem solving questions based on our understanding of Roman Numerals. Towards the end of the week we will recap our understanding of place value of 4 digit numbers. Then we will begin to explore numbers through zero. The children will learn to count backwards through zero going into negative numbers. To challenge ourselves we will explore how negative numbers change if we add and subtract them.

Topic

In topic we will still be working on our science work around “How Humans Work”. So far we have covered some of the major organs and how they work. This week we will build upon this understanding and start to look at our digestive systems. We will learn what parts make up the digestive system and how they are connected. From here we will learn how each individual part of our digestive system works as an individual. Finally, the children will look at how the digestive system fits together as a whole and works. We will look at what journey our food takes through our digestive system and why each part is vital.
