Message from Primary - 9th September 2016

Dear Parents,

Firstly, a big thank you to everybody who was able to attend our Primary Meet and Greet Wednesday evening. It was great to see a large number of parents attend the different year group presentations, but then also take the opportunity to meet and speak with our specialist team of teachers as well as their children’s class teachers. The blend of a more formal presentation alongside a more social setting with drinks and nibbles, hopefully helped parents to gain a little insight into the year ahead regarding the curriculum, but also mingle with fellow parents and meet new people. I know our teachers really appreciated having the opportunity to meet so many parents early into the school year.

Next week, we will host our first Parent Coffee Morning of the year. This will take place in the Hive from 9.00am and is open to parents of Early Years children up to Year 6. For our first coffee morning, we would like to get an idea of how the start of the year has been for you and your family, as well as feedback on any other aspect of school life since the start of the new academic year. We would also like your ideas for future Parent Workshops that we will begin hosting very soon.

Yesterday we were treated to our first assembly of the year. Ms. Preston and her talented students in 5B shared with us what they have been learning in their first three weeks of school. Focusing on the topic of Brainwaves, we found out how our brain works, that we have different ways of learning and 5B also shared with us how they had linked their English work to their topic. It was definitely the perfect topic to present in our very first assembly and the Year 5 students did an amazing job.

With a shorter week next week and International Week almost upon us, our next class assembly will be after the October holiday.

In our assembly, we also learned who would be our Head Boy and Head Girl, and Deputy Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl for this academic year. Last week, our shortlisted candidates spoke to the whole of the primary school on why they should be chosen to represent the school, and this week our students have been voting for who they think is the best person for each role.

Congratulations to Kai Beaumont who will be our Head Boy and Jana Baden who will be our Head Girl for this academic year. In these roles, Kai and Jana will be involved in leading our School Council, all of whom were announced last week, and will help lead a variety of events with our teaching staff throughout the school year.

Deputising for Kai and Jana will be Mattia Pittaluga and Jazmyn Crowther. They too will support our School Council and help to represent our student leaders throughout the year.

A very special well done to Andrew Tsui, Bethany Poisson, Ansh Gupta and Renee Charnesky who also gave very compelling speeches last week and showed that they too have got what it takes to be one of our student leaders. It was a very close contest and all of the students should be extremely proud of their achievements.

Last but not least, we have a busy weekend coming up. On Saturday, I look forward to seeing some of our students playing football and on Sunday I will be at our Family Picnic, being held from 12pm to 4pm. I look forward to seeing you there.

With best wishes,

Lisa Passante

Head of Primary
