A busy first fortnight back for Year 9 students. It's great to see everyone refreshed from Christmas break and ready to learn. Students are still busy researching career options during their guidance sessions. Interviews are still ongoing to have personalised discussions about choices for next years GCSE subjects. It was great to see so many parents and students at this weeks ARE meetings and I was impressed at the maturity the students have been displaying as they had conversations with their subject teachers. Students also had the opportunity to take part in taster lessons for both Economics and Business this week and I hope that these sessions will have helped with the decision making process. Please remember that students can continue to seek advice from myself, their form tutors and their subject teachers.

7 Minute House Challenge

It was great to see so many students supporting their house in this weeks 7 minute fitness challenge. House points are allocated to those who participated and results will be announced in this weeks assembly.

Chinese New Year celebrations

This week we will begin our celebrations for the year of the rooster and they will begin for secondary students in a special assembly on Friday. Students will be treated to performances of dance and music. Our annual Temple Fair will be held on Sunday and I look forward to seeing many of you there. All the details can be found on he schools website or wechat posts.

News from the classroom

Science

Year 9 Science class explored characteristics of electric circuits through making series and parallel combinations to investigate how voltage and current are distributed around the loop. They worked splendidly with digital multimeters and laid strong foundations for IGCSE.

Student Reporters

German - Alexander Nies

Today in German, our amazing teacher Ms.Flood wanted us to make a poster for the Global Languages board. Our topic for this few weeks is about the environment and how to make the environment better and which things damages the environment. For example using plastic bags isn't good for the environment and saving electricity would be good for the environment and this topic lets us learn lots of the vocabularies in German. We started the class off with a worksheet about the world's environment problem's German vocabulary and we had to find the English meanings, then we headed straight off to make the posters for the Global Language's board.

Science - Alessandra Perone

In the last few lessons we have started a new topic. Photosynthesis. I have enjoyed learning this topic so far also because we have done a really cool experiment testing if the leaf contains starch. That was our learning objective and how to test a leaf is photosynthesis.

Maths - Go Iwabuchi

Today in maths class, we learned how to solve simultaneous equations graphically. We were given two different equations and were told to find the point that they meet on a line graph and I find this subject very easy to understand.
