Last Saturday, NAIS hosted the U13 Football and Basketball Tournament, in preparation for FOBISIA in March.  It was a fantastic day with fantastic weather and the Year 7s and 8s played 5 hours of sport on the day and competed against four other schools – BISS Puxi, Dulwich Shanghai, Dulwich Suzhou and Wellington.

The girls narrowly lost two of their Basketball games and won two. They beat Dulwich Shanghai and Wellington and were unlucky to lose to Dulwich Suzhou and BISS Puxi, meaning they came 4th overall. In the football, again the girls lost two and won two, to the same teams again and came  4th overall once again.

The boys started the day with Football and came second overall. The guys were unlucky as they lost 2-1 in their first game to BISS Puxi – a game they probably should have won! In the Basketball, the competition proved too difficult this time round, and with both Matthew Ward and Mathias injured, the boys lost all their games, to come last overall.

It was a great day overall and helped to prepare the students for their forthcoming trip to Kuala Lumpur. Well done to those Year 8 involved: Ciara, Rebecca, Yvonne, Patricia, Tonya, George, Mathias, Asher, Aryan and Jacob!

Year 8 Assessment Term 2 Cycle

Lesson Updates

Rebecca 8B for Maths

This week we learned about the power of 10.

On Monday Mr. Parrish explained how to do it. We first didn't know what to do. But after a few exercises we understood. On Friday we learned the standard form. We all thought that is really hard to understand but we got it really fast. At the end of the lesson we played a game with the cube.

Yeyoung 8B for Mandarin

In Mandarin, we are learning about how to say some foods in Chinese.
Those are 鸡肉 - Chicken , 饺子 - dumpling , 冰激淋 - ice cream and etc. We learnt a sentence, which is .....的 时候. It means at this time. The characters are hard to write and remember, but I worked really hard.

Jacob 8B for PE

In P.E. we have been learning how to play volleyball. We have been learning dig shots and set shots, then once we were good enough we got into pairs and we had to keep the ball in the air without letting the ball touch the ground. The pair that kept the ball in the air for the longest got a house point each. After a couple of lessons we started to play real matches with a badminton net and the ball was allowed to bounce once before we hit the ball. In the recent lessons the people in FOBISIA have been doing athletics training while the others have been playing matches with volleyball nets and practising their digs and sets.

Ellen 8B for Drama

On February 6th, we learned about gulling. We choose a team and we had to make a story our self (as a team) about gulling. Also we had to act all about what we have done and what We have learn. We had to act 2 minutes. My team were good however, we used too much blocking. Mr. Bradshaw said we have to face at audience and trying to not use blocking you act.
