Early Years Maths Workshop

Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend our Early Years Maths Workshop this morning we had a great turn out. We looked at the two different aspects (areas) within Mathematics – ‘Numbers’ and ‘Shape, Space and Measure’; talking  about our age related expectations and the Early Learning Goals which we aim for your child to reach by the end of their time in early years and as they progress into Primary.

Maths is not just about number problems and building an in depth understanding and strong foundation in numbers and concepts such as capacity, weight and shape  is very important to us here at NSAIS Pudong. We do this through teacher input and play and ensure to set up mathematical learning opportunities throughout our environment.

Children learn mathematical concepts in role play areas for example in the shop or the bakery. There may be mathematical challenges in the sand or water trays.  At home, you too can make maths fun through everyday activities such as setting the table or cooking and baking. Bath time is also another great opportunity for mathematical learning.
