Principal's Message - 17th March

Mad March is certainly a term we can use to describe the volume events taking place in school this week. We started it off by welcoming back our outstanding Under 13 FOBISIA squad from their recent successes in Kuala Lumpur and with our parent workshops in Early Years and Primary.

If you follow our Facebook and WeChat feeds (which I urge you to do), you will have seen the article on Asher Joseph in the publication Malay Mail.  This highlighted personal success in a new arena for Asher but there were also many individual and collective team efforts at the competition in KL. Amazingly, each NAIS Pudong student brought home at least one medal. Noteworthy individual recommendations go to Matthew Ward, who was the key to the boys earning second place and silver medals on the football field. Matthew also won three golds in the track and field events. To be able to compete with international schools that often treble our size shows the sheer talent of our students and the dedication from their coaches who work tirelessly supporting their development week after week.

Of course, success is possible in many other areas beside sport. This week I had the pleasure of interviewing four amazing students as they applied to represent NAIS Pudong this summer, along with 80 fellow NAE students, at the United Nations in New York.  Their passion, maturity and ability to articulate in such an advanced mature manner speaks volumes for both the high quality education they receive and the support from home. Perhaps the most humbling experience of the week was attending the Higher Education Fair and hearing the advice from four of our Year 13 students on how to prepare for the future choices students will make in selecting their next course of study. I’ve yet to experience with my parent hat on the world of university applications, but welcomed the opportunity to engage with my son and daughter on the world of choice that lies ahead. One choice that was most certainly reaffirmed is that I can’t think of more capable hands for them to be in as they prepare for the future, than with our Secondary team. I know parents have utilised the options meetings with Mr. Graham, Mrs Whiteson, Mrs Watson and Mrs Parrish to assist as they navigate through those decisions. Similarly, I know how relieved I am to have my children guided through this process with our staff who care passionately for their well-being and success.

Another great success this week was our continuing series of workshops designed to support you at home and demonstrate how we deliver key areas of learning in school. From our maths workshops to our talks on growing up, the feedback has been outstanding. Our teachers spend a lot of time preparing for these sessions, and certainly appreciate hearing that the content is impactful.

A busy weekend lies ahead with sport, production rehearsals, more revision skills sessions with parents, and our presence at The Kerry Parkside for the Shanghai Family International School Fair. If you happen to be at the event, please stop by our booth (B7), we'd love to see you!
