Stars of the Week
Year 1A – John Deng for settling well into his new school
Year 1B – Bill Wang for solving mathematical problems and explaining the method he used.
Year 1C – Raymond Zheng for settling in to his new class and sharing his ideas with his friends and I.
In English, the children will receive another cryptic message from the aliens. They will need to decipher the message and suggest ideas of how to help and support the aliens. The alien world is nearly extinct.
Focus: Use phonic knowledge to spell words, punctuate sentences, adjectives for effect, use positional language, self-assess their work
In Mathematics, the children will revisit doubling and halving numbers. To complement the work they have being doing exploring addition and subtraction they will spend time on understanding inverse operations. They will also revisit identifying shape names and their properties.
Key Vocabulary: less than, finding the difference, addition, subtraction, double, half, 2D shapes, 3D shapes
Next week the children will develop their geography skills. They will create their own maps of a new alien world, which will be labeled and include simple geographical features such as rivers, mountains, bridges, cliffs etc. They will use geographical terms to describe their maps and include co-ordinates of the different areas.
