Information and reminders
Please note that IB and IGCSE exams are taking place and will be taken in the Primary building. The main staircase in B Block will remain closed and all students and adults should use alternative staircases. Please can we ask parents not to wait in the area outside the Hive, outside Sports Hall B or along the Year 3 classrooms, as we need to ensure silence for our older students. Parents are always welcome to go to Aspretto, our coffee shop, whilst waiting for students. Thank you for your support.
STEAM Day - The theme for the upcoming STEAM day (Thursday 18 May) will be recycling. Please bring in clean, safe recyclable materials (plastic, cardboard, paper) for construction on the day.

In English, the children will continue reading ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again’, developing their character and setting descriptions in the style of Frank Cottrell Boyce. We will be working on the year 5 objectives, particularly on using modal verbs, relative clauses and describing characters through their behaviour. As we approach the end of the book, we will return to the link with our IPC topic, and debate whether the Tooting family (the book’s protagonists) are in fact good or bad tourists.
Focus: Make characters inferences, make predictions based on language, imitate an author’s style, and write in a specific genre.
In Mathematics, we will begin looking at Data Presentation, with a particular focus on line graphs. We will be revising how to read and construct bar charts, before reading and drawing line graphs. We will look at conversion graphs as well as time-distance graphs. Towards the end of the week, we will look at problem solving linked to graph reading, and will pick up on common misconceptions made when handling data.

In topic, the children will be continuing to design and imagine their own tourist resort. They will create advertisements using Green-Screen technology, allowing them to share images from their resort. They will create brochures and presentations in order to attract visitors to their eco-tourist resort, and will present this in their upcoming Exit Point.
