Message from Primary

Dear Parents,

It may have been the penultimate week of the academic year, but this has not slowed us down in the primary school! Our biggest event of the week, has to be, of course, the Juniors’ performance of ‘Porridge’. After weeks of hard work, in addition to their regular lessons, Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 excelled themselves with their superb delivery, comic timing, wonderful singing and expressive dancing. The students were an absolute credit to the school and I know all of their teachers were incredibly proud of them, as was I. A big thank you to all of our Junior teachers and Teaching Assistants who have been working tirelessly in ensuring the performance was a success, with a special mention to Mr Trayte who led the organisation of the show, from its initial inception. I’d also like to say thank you to all our parents who supported the students in practising for ‘Porridge’ and for being a super audience across both Wednesday and Thursday.

Even after an evening performance, our Juniors keep on going and today our Year 6 students experience a taster of what it is like to be a secondary student. In particular, they get to experience some of our specialist teaching facilities, such as the DT workshop, the art studio, the science laboratories and the drama studio. The Year 6 students will also have an opportunity to speak with our current Year 7s about their upcoming move to secondary and get some advice on how to make it a smooth transition.

Our Year 3s are also partaking in practical learning today, working with one of our parents, Mr Dexter, in our Maker Space. The children are being scientists, or more specifically engineers today, and are finding out if the shape of the hull of a boat impacts upon the speed with which it travels. The children will be building their boats and later racing them against each other to find out.

We have an equally as busy week next week. It is our Juniors’ Sports Day on Monday, so please come along and cheer on our students; it begins at 10.45am. Year 1 and Year 6 will be out on day trips to She Shan Sculpture Park and Century Park respectively and on Thursday we have our Primary Year in Review Assembly. Students from Nursery to Year 6 will be in attendance and we welcome our parents to come and reflect on the year, along with us. It will begin at 9.00am in Sports Hall B. Later that day, the students will have an opportunity to let their hair down after such a busy year and enjoy class parties with their friends. A reminder that the school year will finish on Friday 23rd June at midday.

Wishing you a lovely weekend.
