ACAMIS Champions

Last weekend we hosted the ACAMIS basketball tournament which was a brilliant weekend for everyone involved.

Samuel Thorley, our Head of Extra-Curricular Sport, organised the event which saw us host five other schools for the 3 day tournament.

The girls

The girls' BISS Puxi basketball team won all of their games very comfortably to secure a place in the final against SIS, our long-time rivals.

The girls were playing to become third time gold champions so there was a lot at stake.  Although the girls knew that they could beat SIS confidently they were very nervous by the time the final started at 4pm on Saturday.  They had played their last first round game on Saturday morning and then a semi-final at midday so they were fairly exhausted.

SIS are a tall team but once Darikha Senanayake and Madeleine Rice starting denying access to the key and pulling down rebounds we were much more comfortable defending.  Lan Tao put a couple of three point shots and we started to pull away.  Madeleine Johnson, Meagan Tan and Josephine Chan were brilliant at putting pressure on the SIS's point guard which got them very flustered and meant that we could make a few steals.

Lan Tao, our captain, had a brilliant game, unfortunately her last at BISS Puxi as she is graduating this year.  She has made incredible contributions to the team during her time with us and will be greatly missed next year as will Madeleine Rice who is also graduating this year.  Lan, Maddy R. and Josephine all received All Star medals for their contributions to the tournament.  A fantastic tournament girls, Miss Moores and I are very proud of you!

The boys

The ACAMIS tournament is always a fun yet highly competitive experience for all those involved. It is the conclusion of a long, draining basketball season for players and coaches and Coach Harriott and I always thoroughly enjoy it.

This year the boys team lived up to their potential with a string of dominant performances that saw them crowed champions!

Coach Harriott and I were both extremely proud of this. It was nice to exercise the demons of last weekend’s tough semi-finals loss to Shanghai Community School in the SISAC tournament.

The whole team were outstanding but the three BISS Lions voted to the all-tournament team were Captain Max Tan, Jamie Shen and Reilly Lavine. These players were the stars among stars on a bright weekend for BISS basketball!
