Celebrating Chinese New Year

This week across the primary and secondary schools we have been celebrating the Chinese New Year with a range of different activities.
  • Reception performing Chinese Dance

To start us off, some Key Stage 2 students performed a Dragon Dance and drumming in front of all the primary students and parents who came to watch. The sun was shining and it was a great start to the week!

In classes, students have been learning about Chinese traditions and culture through arts and crafts such as fan decorating and calligraphy as well as dancing. There have also been quizzes in classes throughout primary and secondary and the secondary students have taken part in a special Chinese treasure hunt around the school.

This morning before school, the whole of Key Stage 2 sang Gong Xi Ni (Good Wishes) for students and parents and Silvia Cassanelli (6S) and Jasmyn Carr (3U) sang solo verses very beautifully!

Throughout the week students have been sharing their New Year wishes on the boards in both school foyers - we hope they all come true for you!

Finally, today is Red Day and students have come dressed either in red or traditional Chinese dress and we’ve seen some great costumes around school! All students have donated 10RMB to come in their own clothes and this money will be donated to JAR, Animal Rescue Centre here in Shanghai.

It's been a great week in school celebrating the culture of our host country and we wish you all Xīn Nián Kuài Lè!
