Our school is a hub for the community providing as it does a broad educational experience for all our students as well as other international and local students through the British International School Community Activity Programme (BISCAP) and external providers. Every day before school, at lunchtime, after school and throughout the weekends the school is a hive of activity. Music concerts, sports fixtures, elite and developmental sports programmes, drama rehearsals, dance and gymnastics sessions, academic competitions, lectures and visits to name just a few, provide a myriad of opportunities to extend and develop students’ learning.
It is great to see the school’s facilities so widely used. In the mornings, sports training sessions and language sessions feature strongly. After school, drama rehearsals and information events predominate. At the weekends sports fixtures and concerts take centre stage. There is invariably a buzz about the campus which helps inspire our students both in and outside the classroom. We are keen to hear about other things student s and families wish to see introduced and as far as possible we support new initiatives if we can. Please let us know if you have ideas for events or areas of activity you would like to see introduced.
Being at the heart of a big thriving learning community it is also important that we have communication between home and school to ensure that our partnership in supporting students to thrive and be the best they can be is as effective and efficient as possible. This holds true across the whole spectrum of the school from IB Information Evenings through Year 6 Residential Trips to the teaching of phonics in Early Years’ Cubs. We are regularly receiving feedback from parents through surveys, the PTA parent reps and room parents, through meetings with sub sections of the school e.g. the termly Student Parent Teacher Conferences and the Q&A sessions that take place at the various information mornings and evenings that we hold and of course through direct communication with your class teacher. Thank you for recently completing the short online survey issued to all Nord Anglia schools. We will send out our annual questionnaire in the summer term to ask for more detailed feedback on all aspects of our work at BISS Puxi. In the meantime I hope that you feel able to approach the school, either directly or through the PTA, parent reps or room parents, to maintain the communication within our learning community.
We live in the information age and the speed of change in terms of how we communicate develops and changes almost daily. As a result we frequently review our systems and we have made some important upgrades to our website and introduced a variety of social media options. These will further enhance our ability to provide existing parents with a steady flow of targeted relevant information regarding the multitude of events taking place each week at the British International School Shanghai Puxi Campus. The move to the new website has not been without a few hitches, particularly regarding the online calendar but I would encourage you to familiarise yourself with the new layout and use it as much as you can. You will become accustomed to the functions and be able to help us to develop and fine tune the site going forward.
