Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to share delicious food from their home country! We (the children and certainly the teachers) are greatly looking forward to the International Week Food Fair on Tuesday 28 March.
- We’ve had some rainy days where many children have been kept inside. Please do send rain boots and a rain coat so that children can still enjoy some outdoor play on a wet day.
- We respectfully remind you that our school day begins at 8:25 AM. If you are running very late and your child is arriving after 8:55 AM you must register their arrival with our primary reception desk in the main foyer. Many thanks for your co-operation.
- Our annual International Week Parade will be on Friday 31 March. The children can come to school dressed to represent a country of their choice, face paints and flags are warmly encouraged! We hope that you can join us, the parade will start at 9am and we would love to see you there. On Wednesday 29th we have photographers in school to take photos of new children who have started at school since our last photo day, please ensure that your child is wearing the school uniform Cubs t-shirt to look smart in their school picture.
- The librarians are in school until 4:30 on Mondays and Tuesdays, if you want to come and borrow books, you can set up a family account.
OUR LEARNING THEMES
This week is International Week, so we will take the opportunity to work with flags and name some countries we know. We will be talking about similarities and differences for example in the way people from different countries greet each other. Make a short video of your child saying “hello”in your home language and email it to your teacher so we can share it with the class. Help your child practise naming their country or countries! Working with flags provides an opportunity to talk about shapes such as squares, rectangles, triangles and circles. The children can design their own flags using these simple shapes. Alongside this, our spring theme may continue as children continue to notice and study the flowers and plants in our environment. In some of our classrooms there will be work with small world resources and large construction projects with duplo and blocks.
Country, flag, shape, square, rectangle, circle, triangle, hello, “I am from….”
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD
International Week is a wonderful time for us to notice that we are all from different places, speak in different ways, eat different food and wear different clothes. This week the children will be immersed in a rich environment where they will have the opporuntity to notice, experience and talk about these different things.
