A BIG THANKYOU TO ALL PARENTS THAT GAVE UP THEIR TIME TO SUPPORT OUR TRIP TO CAFÉ DU VILLAGE . THE CHLDREN HAD A GREAT TIME AND ENJOYED BEING ABLE TO ORDER THEIR OWN HEALTHY SNACK!
- Reading books should be returned to school daily so that the children can also read in school and it is important that you tick the children’s communication books when they read at home.
- As the weather is beginning to change please make sure your child comes to school with suitable named outdoor clothes; a raincoat with a hood and rain boots, which they can change into to go outside when it is wet. Please label all items with your child’s name!
- Spare clothes: please remember that accidents do happen and it is very helpful to keep a spare set of named clothes in your childs cubby basket. Please include socks!
- Please remember to send snack bottles and boxes that are made from unbreakable materials- this will help keep all of the children safe in case of accidents.
- Monday 24 October we will hold the hearing screen.
LEARNING THEME: CELEBRATIONS
THE BIG QUESTION: WHAT IS A CELEBRATION?
We all love celebrating in Reception Cubs, whether it is a birthday or celebrating our own achievements in Star of the Week assembly! We are going to be talking about all the different types of celebrations that the children take part in, both at school with their friends and at home with their families. We will listen to each other talk about favourite celebrations and tell us why they are our favourites. Please let us know about any special celebrations you have coming up! We love to share these experiences in school.
When children arrive at school on Monday there will be a surprise waiting for them….. What has happened at BISS Puxi over the weekend and why?
The children will be encouraged to talk with their friends about what they like to celebrate. We will look at family photographs of celebrations familiar to them. All children will then be encouraged to draw a picture of their favourite celebration.
Celebration, party, birthday, wedding, anniversary, Christmas, Halloween, new baby
Enjoys joining in with family customs and traditions
We will continue playing some simple phonics games with the children to develop their listening skills. We will consolidate sounds the children already know. Check inside phonics packs to see if there are any new letters to learn. If you would like to check how the sounds are pronounced please click here.
We will look at how some celebrations happen on certain days of the week or months of the year. We will encourage the children to learn the order of the days of the week through singing songs and ordering events.
It is an important to skill to be able to sequence an event according to what happened first, next, then, after and finally. We will recap our trip to Café Du Village and use these terms to describe what we did in order. Children will then be asked to sequence the events of a party using picture cues. They will be encouraged to talk about why they have put the pictures in a certain order.
Measuring time is tricky! We will have fun and incorporate this into a party game activity e.g. how many jumps can you do in 10 seconds, how many numbers can you say in 20 seconds? Children will get to experience the difference between seconds and minutes.
Days of the week, sequence, order, first, then, next, after, last, minute, second, how long….
