MESSAGES

  • Wednesday 14 June: Year 4 Learning Showcase – Explorers  9.00 – 10.00am
  • Garden Party 10 June
  • Class Lists 2017-18

We are currently working on class lists for 2017-18 and will share these with you during the week beginning 12 June.

As is our practice, we aim to provide stability for our students by moving them up with their existing classes where possible, while also taking account to ensure that classes are balanced. Following the issue of the class lists, it will be possible to meet with Ms Jess should you have any questions. However, we ask for your trust in us that that all decisions taken are in the best interests of all the children and your understanding that we cannot meet requests of individual parents.

  • Please label all school uniform, snack boxes and water bottles to avoid items getting lost in school.
  • Now the weather is getting warmer, please could you encourage your child to bring in a hat and also a water bottle so that they remain well hydrated during the day.

LITERACY

In Literacy this week, the children will be learning about how to write persuasively using certain writing techniques. They will look at examples of persuasive writing and think about why they are effective and when persuasive writing might be used. They will be asked questions that they decide whether they are for or against supporting and then plan and write persuasive texts that present their opinion.

KEY VOCABULARY

Persuasive, techniques, persuasion, for, against, opinion, explanation

MATHS

In maths this week we will be exploring with measure in real life situations! The children will be measuring the amount of water in unmarked containers and estimating how many will fit into other containers to improve their understanding of capacity. This will lead onto making a witches potion of their own! They will also be given an opportunity to measure ingredients using weighing scales. To understand money they will be designing their own modern classroom and will need to research the prices of the equipment they use, working towards a budget, as well as planning to scale. Hopefully by the end of the week they will have a better understanding of all the different types of measure in a real life context.

KEY VOCABULARY

millilitres, litres, metres, centimetres, pounds, pence, grams, kilograms, scale

THEMED LEARNING

This week the students will begin to plan, design and make model survival shelters.  They will have a variety of materials available to them to complete their model structures.  They will initially plan through sketching, considering how best to use the cocktail sticks to create a supportive frame.  This may be a free standing frame or can be leaned up against an object taking the place of a tree.  They will then have the opportunity to explore a range of materials to create the exterior of their shelter.

KEY VOCABULARY

Emergency shelter, model, plan, frame, free standing

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

The exciting learning opportunity continues with teaching the children how to code using the App ‘Hopskotch’. This will continue throughout the term leading children to design and create their own games. This week they will be creating their own ‘Flappy Bird’ game.

Cito-toetsen
