Week Beginning 13 November 2017

Monday and Tuesdays are school holidays. Enjoy this break with your family and we look forward to seeing all the children back rested and ready for school on Wednesday 15 November.

MESSAGES

  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks.   • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a hat during the hot weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  If your child would be swimming, they should bring their normal PE kit.

LITERACY

This week the children will be continuring with the Nord Anglia creative writing competition.  We will cover:

Developing written powers of expression

Writing clearly, accurately and coherently, adapting the language and style for the audience, context and purpose

Developing editing and proof reading skills

This year’s theme is “Down in the Dumps”. For example, students could write about where rubbish goes/where it should go, written from the perspective of a garbage collector or a piece of garbage making its way through the waste cycle. Another way students could write about this topic is from an emotional perspective. For example, “down in the dumps” could reflect feelings of disillusionment with their immediate environment, neighbourhood, city, or the world.  Word count – 500 words

MATHS

The children will continue to learn about multiplication this week – in particular solving problems. This week, we will have a quick mental maths test on Friday – please practice times tables in preparation for these.

THEMED LEARNING

This week, we will be finalizing our amazing artwork to go alongside out writing for the competition mentioned above.  Children will use their imaginations and be as a creative as possible! Fingers crossed the work gets published in the anthology.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

This week, we will continue learning coding skills using the program: Python.  The children will work in groups and try and ‘debug’ each other’s work.

PSHCE

In PSHCE this term we will be looking at teamwork and collaborative working.  We will focus further on fostering new relationships, creating rules and expectations for the group and how to work together successfully.

Hebben jullie het grote nieuws al gehoord? Tosca Menten komt naar Shanghai en brengt een bezoek aan onze school. Tosca zal niet alleen een voorstelling geven aan de kinderen van SDS maar ook aan de andere kinderen van year 4 tot year 6.

Om de niet -Nederlandstalige leerlingen van de school kennis te laten maken met Tosca Menten gaan we een tentoonstelling opzetten over Tosca en haar werk. Daarnaast  schrijven we  ook nog een presentatie over Tosca en haar boeken. Deze presentatie mogen  de leerlingen dan in de klas presenteren zodat de overige klasgenoten meer informatie hebben voor de voorstelling.

Maar eerst gaan we genieten van een lang weekend!
